Parental moment

Before you had kids, did you ever have a picture in your mind of what it would be like? One moment that immediately sprung to mind when you thought about it? For some it is holding your baby for the first time, or that first step.

Today I had my moment.

Jon, Lucia and I went to Alki to walk around this afternoon. It was cool and windy but we wanted to get out of the house and give Lucia a chance to run some of the energy out of her. As I've mentioned before she's very independent and now that she's walking she wants to be free without a hand to hold so that she can run, stomp in puddles, stop near and far. Tonight though when we got down to the water, without asking, she reached up and held Jon's hand and then she reached up and held mine and for a brief moment there we were walking together. That was the moment I've always had in my mind and I closed my eyes just for a second so I could take a mental picture of it. Nothing better than those few moments in time with us all together.
