You turned one year old today sweet girl. This time last year at 2.32 p.m. you were born. After all that time wondering and waiting to see who you would be, there you were. We were so excited we forgot to check if you were a boy or girl (we didn't find out in advance) and they put you on my stomach and I remember looking at you and feeling your warm skin thinking, there you are, our baby. My how much has changed in the past year. We can't believe how much better our lives have been with you in them. From the sleepless nights to the long naps you'd take on us, to the curious exploration, the lover of food, the happiness in nature, to the girl always in motion...we wouldn't trade a moment. How could we as you are the most special girl in the world. They say this is a milestone birthday for you and for us as parents. We've had people say it is a celebration of surviving the first year but it wasn't surviving at all but rather living a very happy life with you and we look forward to the many years and decades ahead. We love you.
Here is a picture of you enjoying your first bite of cake. You were so funny! You took a bite of cake (it was Yoma's famous carrot) and then clap happily. Over and over until you had eaten a good portion of the cake. We laughed and laughed.
You had a good day today and took time out to visit your nurses at the NICU at Northwest Hospital. We wanted to give them a gift (Fran's chocolates) to thank them for all they did for us those first scary days. They were happy to see you too as they usually don't see babies after they leave their care. You then came home and had fish taco's for dinner, with your cake of course, then off to bed. A good time was had by all.

Happy Birthday Lucia! Sorry I bonked my head and had to go to the ER and miss out on your 1st birthday and Yoma's cupcakes...but I'll hopefully see you soon so we can explore the world (or Seattle) like little monkeys together. Love Lucy!
