One thing has remained true every day of Lucia's life so far - she hates to go to sleep. She hates it with all her might and almost every time she has to go to bed she cries, she squirms, she yells out, "please mom and dad don't make me!!" Now she's tired, and we've adjusted her bedtimes to make sure she isn't overtired, we've tried singing her to sleep, patting her back, making the room the right temperature and what we've learned is.....she hates to go to sleep. Now don't get us wrong, she loves to sleep and can sleep for an 8 hour stretch at a time. She looks peaceful when she's asleep and when she wakes she's always happy and smiling. She does the best waking up stretch I've ever seen (she's modeled it after her father) and she makes this sound when she yawns after waking up that is the happiest sound for me. It makes me so happy and I look forward to it every day. She just wishes she didn't have to fall asleep first.
These are pictures of her taking a nap. The rolled up towels are because she likes to bang up against the crib and these were 'safe' bumpers so that she wouldn't do that. Her arm seems to indicate though that she's wishing she were free. When we get her out of her crib we usually ask her if she wants to get up and when she looks up and smiles we say "Free Lucia".
