Really sleeping through the night

I think the thing most talked about when you have a baby is their sleep. You talk about it, you talk to your baby about it, and everyone asks about it. You call your friends and ask what they did and think, mnnn maybe I should try that. You take classes and read the many books that all tell you something different and at the end of the day, your baby either sleeps or doesn't.  I remember when Lucia was only 3 weeks old and someone (who does have kids) asked me if she was sleeping through the night. Seriously!!! What planet are you on, they don't sleep through the night when they are that young. I read all the books and found out that sleeping through the night means different things at different ages. When they are 2-3 months old its 5 hours in a row. Boy was I happy when Lucia could do that.

We've had our battles with sleep as Lucia cries just about every time she goes down and it breaks our heart. She's a busy, happy girl when she's awake but she fights it when its time for bed. This is now a known fact. But when she sleeps, she sleeps hard and long for the most part. She's been sleeping about 8 hours a night for a couple of months (except of course it times of teething or illness when we have to start all over) but lately her pattern had been to fall asleep about 7.30 pm and wake up around 3.30 -4.00 a.m. hungry. I'd feed her and then she'd sleep until it was time to get up which on weekdays was 5.45 a.m.

Last night she really slept through the night. The whole night and nothing but the night. She didn't cry when I put her down to sleep and instead grabbed her blanket, rolled over, put her head down, gave me a smile and settled herself to sleep. She slept that way until 5.45 a.m. without interruption. Yeah!!! Yeah!!! Yeah!!! I've been proud of her sleep and truth be told, I never minded getting up with her at 3.30 a.m. but I'm happy she's getting into more of a rhythm and really sleeping through the night.
